One of the world's leading Formula 1 drivers is preparing for life after the racetrack. Two-time F1 World Drivers champion Fernando Alonso has bought a stake of more than 20 per cent in a chain of sushi restaurants. The Spanish driver is believed to have secured a stake in Sticks 'n' Sushi alongside McWin Capital Partners, its private equity backer. An industry source familiar with the details said the restaurant group would have five co-investors, with McWin holding a majority stake and Alonso, 43, emerging with 'a meaningful investment'. The business is estimated to turn over about £100million, at a bottom-line profit margin of about 10 per cent. The price paid by McWin for a majority stake in the chain in February last year has never been disclosed, although one insider suggested it was 'less than £100million and more than £50million'. In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday, he confirmed: 'Sticks 'n' Sushi is a nice opportunity outside of racing. We've been partners with McWin for more than five years.'
